Important Notice

Academic visitors can stay in the UK for up to 12 months, longer than standard visitor visas. You must be an academic from an overseas institution or expert in your field.

The Academic Visitor visa allows academics to:

Conduct research and gather information for their overseas work
Share knowledge through lectures and presentations (if invited by a UK institution)
Take part in formal exchange arrangements
Establish or participate in research collaborations
Attend conferences and seminars

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify as an academic visitor, you must:

Be an academic employed by an overseas institution
Hold a PhD or equivalent qualification
Intend to do research or exchange knowledge in your field
Have sufficient funds to support yourself
Not intend to take up employment in the UK
Plan to leave the UK at the end of your visit

Visa Duration & Processing Times

Available Durations:

Standard visit visa: up to 6 months
Long-term visit visa: 2 years (multiple entry)
Long-term visit visa: 5 years (multiple entry)
Long-term visit visa: 10 years (multiple entry)

Processing Times:

Standard service: Decision within 3 weeks
Priority service: Decision within 5 working days (Additional £500)
Super Priority service: Decision by the end of the next working day (Additional £800)

Bank statements from the last 6 months
